DANIEL ISLAND — All lanes on Interstate 526 westbound reopened near the Don Holt Bridge after a multiple-vehicle collision the morning of July 1.
Authorities reported the crash occurred around 8 a.m., involving a tractor trailer. Charleston Police Department vehicles closed off travel lanes from Daniel Island into North Charleston for safety while crews worked on scene.
By 8:15 a.m., all lanes had been temporarily shut down, though a small opening allowed some traffic to pass on the left side. The collision did not involve any Charleston police vehicles, according to agency spokesperson Sgt. Daniel Wilson.
Emergency medical services were seen responding, with an ambulance navigating through stopped traffic around 8:45 a.m. A tow truck departed the scene shortly before 9:30 a.m., allowing for the reopening of the roadway.
The extent of injuries sustained and further details on the circumstances of the crash remain unclear as the investigation continues.
