is recalling over 741,000 vehicles in the U.S. due to a potential transmission issue that may increase crash risk.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported that the recall affects specific models: Ford F-150, Lincoln Aviator, Ford Explorer, Lincoln Navigator, and Ford Expedition from model years 2018 to 2021.

According to the report, these vehicles may experience unintended engagement of the transmission parking pawl when shifting, potentially damaging the park system components.

This damage can impair the vehicle's ability to stay in “park” if the parking brake is not applied, posing an increased risk of unintended movement and accidents.

The NHTSA has documented 24 claims of property damage and nine reported injuries linked to this issue, including two emotional injury claims.

Owners will be notified by mail and directed to visit a Ford or Lincoln dealer for a software update of the Powertrain Control Module. Dealers will also inspect for any park system damage and replace components as necessary, at no charge to the owners.

Vehicle owners can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 for further information.
