Ford Recalls Over 741,000 Vehicles Due to Transmission Issues

DETROIT, MI – Motor Company announced a recall affecting more than 741,000 vehicles in the U.S. due to a potential transmission issue that may increase the risk of crashes or injuries.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall involves specific 2018-2021 models: Ford F-150, Lincoln Aviator, Ford Explorer, Lincoln Navigator, and Ford Expedition. The report indicates that impacted vehicles may experience temporary engagement of the transmission parking pawl while in motion, potentially damaging park system components.

Authorities reported that if damage occurs, the transmission's ability to secure the vehicle in “park” could be compromised, raising the risk of unintended movement. The NHTSA is aware of 24 claims of property damage and nine reported injuries related to the defect, including two emotional injury allegations.

Vehicle owners will be notified by mail and instructed to visit a Ford or Lincoln dealer for a Powertrain Control Module software update. Dealers will also inspect for transmission park system damage and replace any damaged components at no cost to the owner.

For further information, vehicle owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
