Tiger Woods to Seek Treatment Abroad After Suspected DUI Rollover Crash.

JUPITER ISLAND, Fla. (CBS12) — A Martin County judge approved Tiger Woods' request to travel abroad for inpatient treatment while facing DUI charges.

County Judge Darren Steele granted the motion during a court hearing on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. The State of Florida did not oppose the request, allowing Woods to leave the U.S. for treatment, according to court records.

Woods was arrested on March 27 on charges of misdemeanor DUI and refusal to submit to urine testing after a two-vehicle crash involving a pickup truck and a Land Rover. Authorities found pills in his pocket, and he later posted $1,150 bond. His defense team stated that the court's approval is part of an effort toward “complete ethical transparency.”

Defense attorney Douglas Duncan referenced recommendations from Woods' physician, highlighting the necessity of overseas treatment due to Woods' “complex clinical presentation” and the impact of public scrutiny on effective care. The motion indicated that ongoing exposure could hinder treatment progress while the selected facility offers a controlled environment.

Court documents revealed that Judge Steele exercised discretion in granting the motion. Woods, a resident of Martin County with local business interests, has waived his presence at some preliminary hearings but agreed to return for scheduled proceedings.

This ruling came shortly after Woods announced he would be stepping away from golf. No further court dates have been set.
