Dog Reunited with Family After Fiery West Virginia Crash
KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (June 23, 2023) — Hennessy, a dog from Iowa, has been reunited with her family following a fiery crash in West Virginia.
Hennessy was in the cab of a tractor-trailer with her owner, Jeffrey Simons, 41, of Wellsburg, Iowa, when he lost control of the vehicle. Simons died in the incident.
After the crash, bystanders rescued Hennessy and she was taken in by the Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association (KCHA). According to KCHA Community Engagement Manager Angie Gillenwater, Hennessy's collar had only partial contact information, limiting rescue efforts.
Using social media, KCHA's large following helped locate Hennessy's original shelter, the Animal Rescue League of Marshalltown, where she was adopted in 2019.
Hennessy's family traveled from Iowa to West Virginia on Monday to bring her home. The shelter noted her transformation from timid and scared to excited and joyful.
