BOSTON, MA — A man was killed in a head-on crash involving a wrong-way driver on I-93 North late Saturday night.

The incident occurred just before midnight near exit 15A in South Boston. Authorities identified the victim as Riley Sergi, 28, of Haverhill. According to investigators, Antone Carvalho, 81, of Somerset, was traveling south in the northbound lanes when he collided with Sergi's Cruze.

Moments prior, a Odyssey carrying a family of four crashed while attempting to avoid Carvalho's vehicle. Carvalho sustained unspecified injuries and was transported to an area hospital. He will face legal action at a later date.

Witness Ed Murray, driving with his wife and daughter, recounted the moments before the crash, noting, “All of a sudden there's a set of headlights coming straight at me.” He attempted to alert Carvalho using his horn but to no avail.

This incident marks the second fatal wrong-way crash in Massachusetts in three days. On Wednesday night, Sheena Grandpre, 43, of Medway, was killed in a similar collision on I-290 East in Northborough. In May, a Massachusetts State Trooper lost his life due to a wrong-way driver on Route 1 North.

The Massachusetts State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding these tragedies.
