MISSOULA, Mont. — A head-on collision between an SUV and a semitruck resulted in one fatality and one injury early Sunday morning near Big Arm.
Emergency responders were dispatched at approximately 6 a.m. to U.S. Highway 93 near Walking Horse Lane, according to the Polson Rural Fire District.
Upon arrival, crews discovered a fuel-hauling semitruck and an SUV that had collided head-on. Authorities confirmed the fuel tanker was empty at the time of the incident.
The driver of the semitruck escaped without assistance and was transported to a local hospital via ground ambulance.
Firefighters later extricated the SUV driver, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
U.S. Highway 93 was closed for roughly four hours while authorities conducted an investigation and cleared the wreckage.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and no further information has been released.
The Polson Rural Fire District extended condolences to the families affected.
