LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — A judge has granted a new trial in a lawsuit against General Motors filed by a woman injured in a crash while wearing a seat belt.
The initial defense verdict for General Motors was issued in November 2025. Following the verdict, the plaintiff’s attorney alleged misconduct by GM during the trial, leading to the judge’s approval of a new trial.
According to the plaintiff’s attorney, Robert Eglet, GM’s attorneys violated pretrial orders over 130 times during the trial. Eglet claimed the violations hindered the jury’s ability to fairly assess the case.
The judge has scheduled a status check for next month, denying General Motors’ request for attorney fees to be paid by the plaintiff. GM spokesperson stated, “This vehicle was designed and built to meet the safety standards of its time,” expressing intent to appeal the latest decision.
No further details on injuries, costs, or timelines were provided.
