U.S. 50 Wrong-Way Crash Claims Life of Local Man
U.S. 50, Oct. 5, 2024 — A wrong-way collision on U.S. 50 resulted in the death of Kevin Ray Wilson, 47, near the 12-mile marker at approximately 2:41 p.m. on Wednesday.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Wilson was traveling eastbound when his vehicle was struck by a westbound car driven by a Mission Hills attorney, who was later charged with Driving While Intoxicated (DWI). The force of the impact caused significant damage to both vehicles.
Wilson was pronounced dead at the scene. The attorney sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Emergency responders from the Kansas Highway Patrol and local fire departments were dispatched to the scene to assist with the investigation and manage traffic. As a result, both eastbound and westbound lanes of U.S. 50 were closed for several hours for crash investigation and clean-up.
