CHILDRESS, Texas (KVII) — A Texas state trooper was killed Wednesday during a traffic stop on US-287 near Childress.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Trooper Sergio Romero, 27, was conducting the stop at approximately 4:00 p.m. when a truck-tractor semi-trailer maneuvered in front of him.
The collision resulted in Trooper Romero's patrol unit striking the semi-trailer, leading to his death at the scene.
Trooper Romero had served with the Hall County Sheriff's Office before joining the Department of Public Safety in 2025 and was stationed in Childress.
He is survived by his wife and two young sons.
