B-52 Crash at Edwards Air Force Base Kills Eight
EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, CA — A B-52 Stratofortress crashed shortly after takeoff on Monday, killing all eight people aboard.
Authorities said the crash occurred at approximately 10:15 a.m. during a radar modernization program flight. Emergency responders from the base and local agencies were dispatched to the scene, but all occupants were confirmed deceased.
The B-52 aircraft was engaged in testing with specialized monitoring equipment onboard. According to experts, the circumstances surrounding the crash raise questions about the incident due to the aircraft's design and operational capabilities.
Former Top Gun pilot Matthew “Whiz” Buckley stated that the B-52 has been a vital part of the Air Force's bomber fleet since the mid-1950s, with some aircraft serving as test platforms.
Authorities confirmed that data from the flight will aid in the investigation, which is ongoing. No additional details on the cause of the crash have been released. The crash site has been secured, and lane closures are in effect for emergency access.
Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
