SHIVELY, Ky. — Three teenage girls were struck by a vehicle around 4:30 p.m. Saturday on Dixie Highway, resulting in one fatality.
Muna Sheiku, 13, was pronounced dead at the scene, while two other teens were transported to the hospital with injuries, according to Shively Police. They are currently recovering.
The incident occurred near the Shively-Newman Library in the 3900 block of Dixie Highway. Witness Terrell Simmons described hearing a “huge boom” and witnessing the moment the girls were struck. He recorded video shortly after the crash, noting that one girl was thrown approximately 50 feet upon impact.
Authorities have not released the driver's identity or indicated whether charges will be filed. The investigation is ongoing.
Simmons emphasized the need for improved safety measures along the highway, including guardrails and better pedestrian infrastructure. “A majority of the highway doesn't even have sidewalks,” he said.
He urged drivers to remain vigilant: “Be more alert, be more aware, put down distractions and drive more carefully.”
Shively Police encourage anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward.
