ST. CHARLES PARISH, La. (WKRC) – A drunk driver jumped from Interstate 310 into a swamp to evade arrest, resulting in an alligator attack on June 7.
According to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office and the Louisiana State Police, state troopers stopped 40-year-old Victor Rivas after observing reckless driving, including hitting a concrete barrier and damaging a tire.
Authorities said Rivas fled on foot during a DWI investigation, leaping from the elevated interstate into the swamp below. Following a brief search, he was attacked by an alligator, sustaining injuries to both arms.
Despite his injuries, Rivas continued to evade law enforcement until he was located by a drone and apprehended. He was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. After his release, Rivas was arrested and charged with operating a vehicle while impaired and resisting an officer.
Authorities confirmed that the alligator involved was unharmed and has resumed its activity in the swamp.
