ST. CHARLES PARISH, La. (WKRC) — A drunk driver led police on a bizarre pursuit, jumping from Interstate 310 into a swamp and being attacked by an alligator on June 7.

According to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office, state troopers initiated a traffic stop due to erratic driving. The vehicle struck a concrete barrier and blew out a tire. Officers identified the driver as 40-year-old Victor Rivas, who displayed signs of impairment.

During the investigation, Rivas fled on foot, leaping from the elevated interstate into the swamp below. Authorities reported that he was later found but fled again into a dense area, where he was bitten by an alligator, sustaining injuries to both arms.

Rivas continued to evade capture until located by a drone. He was for non-life-threatening injuries before being arrested and charged with operating a vehicle while impaired and resisting arrest.

The alligator involved in the incident was reportedly uninjured and has returned to its natural habitat.
