HARTFORD — Two women were injured in a rollover crash on Bear Pond Road at 4:40 p.m. on Wednesday.
A 52-year-old Canton woman was ejected from her Subaru Forester, which struck several rocks before flipping over. She sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to a Portland hospital by LifeFlight of Maine.
The passenger, a 65-year-old woman, was trapped inside the vehicle until a passing motorist rescued her, according to authorities. She also suffered serious injuries and was transported to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.
The identities of the women have not been released as police work to notify their families. The crash prompted the closure of Bear Pond Road (Route 219) while emergency responders attended to the victims and initiated an investigation.
The road remained closed into early Wednesday night, and motorists are advised to seek alternative routes in the area. The investigation is ongoing by the Oxford County Sheriff's Department.
