BROOKLYN PARK, MN — A small plane crash near 62nd and Florida avenues claimed the lives of two individuals, including North Dakota Rep. Liz Conmy, on Saturday around noon.

According to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), a Beech F33A aircraft went down shortly after taking off from Crystal Airport. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed two people were aboard the aircraft at the time.

Local fire crews responded within minutes of the incident. Witnesses reported seeing the plane descending rapidly before it crashed and exploded. “I told my fiancé that looks like it’s going to crash, and right when I said that, I saw the big explosion,” said witness Nevaeh Surla.

Conmy’s death was confirmed by WCCO. North Dakota Democratic Minority Leader Zac Ista expressed devastation at the loss, highlighting her adventurous spirit and directness.

Investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing, with local authorities on the scene. An NTSB investigator is expected to arrive later Saturday or early Sunday. No further details regarding injuries or potential tow operations have been released.
