Deputy heroically rescues breast cancer patient trapped in fiery crash.

CHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (TNND) — A deputy rescued a woman from her burning vehicle following a crash on Interstate 77 on May 23.

Deputy Daniel Threatt was first on the scene of the accident, which left the overturned and partially engulfed in flames. Witnesses reported that the driver was trapped inside and unable to free herself.

Authorities said Threatt immediately entered the vehicle's wreckage to extract the driver, later identified as Carletta Bush, who was en route to Charlotte to complete radiation treatments for breast cancer. Additional first responders quickly arrived to assist in extinguishing the fire and administering medical care.

Due to the extensive damage to the , Threatt broke a window to pull Bush to safety. “I called out to her, and she said she was stuck in the seat belt,” Threatt recalled. “This car could blow up at any moment.”

Bush expressed her gratitude, describing Threatt as her “guardian angel.” After the incident, Threatt visited her in the hospital, reflecting on his actions during the rescue. “I've got to give all glory to God,” he said.

The Chester County Sheriff's Office confirmed that no other vehicles were involved, and there were no serious injuries reported other than the driver's. The investigation into the accident remains ongoing.
