CHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (TNND) — A Chester County deputy rescued a woman from her burning vehicle after a crash on Interstate 77 on May 23.

Deputy Daniel Threatt was the first responder at the scene of a accident at approximately 2:41 p.m. The vehicle had overturned and was partially on fire, with the driver trapped inside. Authorities confirmed that the driver was en route to Charlotte to celebrate the conclusion of her radiation treatments for breast cancer.

According to the Chester County Sheriff's Office, Deputy Threatt did not hesitate and risked his own safety to pull the driver from the wreckage. Additional first responders arrived promptly to extinguish the flames and provide medical assistance.

Witnesses reported that the vehicle was significantly damaged, prompting Threatt to break a window to reach the driver, later identified as Carletta Bush. “I called out to her, and she said she was stuck in the seat belt,” Threatt recounted.

After the rescue, Bush praised Threatt as her “guardian angel,” stating that no one else had come to her aid. Deputy Threatt later visited her in the hospital, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to help. “I've got to give all glory to God,” he said, emphasizing the significance of the rescue in his seven-year law enforcement career.

The incident is under investigation, with no road closures reported following the emergency response.
