University of Toledo athlete Eva Moran dies in crash

CLARIDON TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A 19-year-old University of Toledo student died in a three-vehicle crash on State Route 309 at 5:28 p.m. May 29.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the collision occurred near milepost 21 in Claridon Township, Marion County.

Troopers said Eva Moran, 19, of Caledonia, was eastbound in a 2012 Elantra when she struck the left rear of an eastbound 2013 Acadia stopped to turn left into a private driveway.

According to the preliminary investigation, Moran then traveled left of center into the westbound lane, where her vehicle was struck by a 2022 Grand Cherokee. Authorities said Moran was .

Marion Township EMS transported Moran to Marion General Hospital, where she was , authorities said.

The GMC's driver, Nathaniel R. Blankenship, 19, of Marion, sustained possible injuries and was treated at the scene, according to the Patrol. The Jeep's driver, Dalila Zamudio, 23, of Galion, had minor injuries and was taken by a private party to Marion General Hospital.

University of Toledo officials confirmed Moran was a freshman track and field athlete and health sciences major.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said the crash remains under investigation.
