SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — Two individuals were hospitalized after a wrong-way collision on Interstate 215 on Wednesday night.
The incident occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m., as reported by authorities. According to Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Cameron Roden, prior reports indicated a wrong-way driver traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-80 near 700 East. The driver then entered the northbound lanes of I-215 via a ramp, where the collision with oncoming traffic occurred.
The driver who was traveling the wrong way has not been identified and is in serious condition. The other driver involved suffered moderate injuries; specifics on their conditions have not been released.
Emergency responders closed the ramp from northbound I-215 to westbound I-80 during the investigation and clean-up process. The ramp has since reopened.
As of now, the cause of the driver entering traffic incorrectly remains unclear, according to Lt. Roden.
