LOWNDES COUNTY, Ala. (WAKA) – A fatal multi-vehicle crash occurred on Interstate 65 early Wednesday morning, resulting in one death and one injury.
According to Alabama State Troopers, the incident took place around 1 a.m. near Julian Town Road, approximately eight miles north of the Lowndes County/Butler County line. A 45-year-old woman, Alisia Parker of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, was driving one SUV that was struck by another SUV operated by 35-year-old Joycelyn Mickles of Mobile. The force of the collision caused Parker's SUV to crash into a tractor-trailer truck driven by 51-year-old Diron Kelly of Loganville, Georgia.
Parker was pronounced dead at the scene. Mickles sustained injuries and was transported to Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery for treatment.
Authorities reported that both southbound lanes of I-65 were temporarily closed for the investigation and cleanup. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is currently investigating the cause of the crash.
This incident marks another tragic event on Alabama highways, highlighting the ongoing concerns regarding road safety.
