CULVER TOWNSHIP — A Duluth man died in a one-vehicle crash early Saturday morning.
The incident occurred on U.S. Highway 2 at approximately 3:45 a.m. According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling east crossed into the oncoming lane before entering a ditch and striking a power pole, which subsequently snapped. The vehicle came to a stop facing westbound with all four tires on the ground.
Keyshawn Michael Beckom, 23, of Duluth, was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. The driver, a 24-year-old man also from Duluth, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Aspirus St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth.
Road conditions were reported dry at the time of the crash. The Minnesota State Patrol was assisted by the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office, Fond du Lac Tribal Police Department, and fire and rescue departments from Culver, Cloquet, and St. Louis County, as well as Life Link for medical aid.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
