One Injured in Shooting, Officer Hurt in Subsequent Crash in Minneapolis
Minneapolis, MN – A shooting early Saturday morning left one person seriously injured and led to a vehicle crash injuring a police officer.
According to the Minneapolis Police Department, the incident occurred around 1:27 a.m. in the 3200 block of 5th Avenue South. Officers arrived to find a man suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds. As they responded, multiple individuals fled the scene in a vehicle.
A pursuit ensued, but officers lost visual contact with the fleeing car. The injured man was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Minutes later, at approximately 1:31 a.m., the vehicle collided with a squad car at the intersection of 34th Street East and 3rd Avenue South. The officer in the struck squad car exited through the window and began searching for the suspects.
Authorities reported that the suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot but were not apprehended during a subsequent search of the area. The officer suffered minor injuries and has been released from the hospital.
Police are investigating whether the individuals in the fleeing vehicle were involved in the shooting. As of now, no arrests have been made.
