Woman Killed in Two-Car Crash on Route 17 in Portland
A woman died in a two-car collision on Route 17 in Portland on Saturday at approximately 11:45 a.m. near Overlook Court.
According to police, the driver of a Toyota Camry traveling south on Route 17 lost control, spun sideways, and was subsequently struck by a Honda Pilot heading north. The driver of the Toyota was pronounced dead at the scene.
A woman and a teenage passenger in the Honda were transported to a local hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.
Prior to the crash, police in Glastonbury received multiple reports of a woman slumped over the steering wheel of the Toyota at the intersection of Route 17 and Great Pond Road. A responding officer knocked on the window, prompting the driver to wake and flee the scene. The officer pursued the vehicle briefly but terminated the chase at the Portland town line.
The identities of those involved have not yet been released.
