Car Crash Injures Panthers QB Dalton, Young Returns as Starter

Bryce Young Returns as Panthers' Starting Quarterback

Charlotte, N.C. (AP) — Bryce Young has been named the starting quarterback for the Carolina Panthers ahead of their game against the Denver Broncos on Sunday.

Panthers coach Dave Caneles confirmed the decision following Andy Dalton's diagnosis of a sprained thumb on his right throwing hand, which he sustained in a accident on Tuesday. Dalton missed practice on Wednesday and is currently listed as day-to-day.

“Bryce has been engaged and excited about the opportunity,” Canales said. Young, the first overall pick in the 2023 draft, has struggled during his time as a starter, holding a record of 2-16 in the NFL. He spent the last five games on the sidelines after being benched for ineffective play.

Despite Dalton winning his first start after Young's benching, he has lost four consecutive games since.

Young remarked on the challenges of being demoted, saying he leaned on his faith and teammates during this time. “I want to focus on the things I'm grateful for,” he added.

Meanwhile, Dalton provided details on the crash, stating that he had just picked up his three children from school when the incident occurred. He reported no serious injuries to his family or the other driver involved.

In positive news for the Panthers, veteran wide receiver Adam Thielen returned to practice Wednesday after recovering from a hamstring injury.
