Woman Pleads Guilty to Bus Driver Assault in Madison

MADISON (WKOW) — Raeven Johnson, 26, pleaded guilty Wednesday to attacking a Metro bus driver, causing the bus to crash into a building on Feb. 25.

Johnson was charged with second-degree recklessly endangering safety and attempted battery against a public transit operator. She also entered guilty pleas to misdemeanor child neglect and battery or threat to a law enforcement officer in separate cases. In exchange for her guilty pleas, prosecutors dropped 17 pending charges.

According to authorities, Johnson struck the bus driver multiple times after becoming frustrated with the bus route. The driver lost control, resulting in the bus crashing into the Asian House restaurant and QPS Employment Group. One passenger required hospitalization due to the incident.

Johnson's defense attorney noted her recent mental health treatment has shown positive progress, but prosecutors highlighted her extensive criminal history, calling her a danger to the public.

A sentencing hearing for Johnson is scheduled for Oct. 10.
