NJ Man Charged in Serious Spaulding Turnpike Crash in NH
MILTON, NH—A New Jersey man faces multiple charges following a serious crash on the Spaulding Turnpike on Wednesday night.
According to State Police, at approximately 10:30 p.m., a driver reported that a Toyota Sienna minivan had crossed the center line and sideswiped another vehicle near exit 17. No injuries were reported in that incident. However, just three minutes later, troopers were notified of a second crash in Rochester.
Authorities identified the minivan driver as 40-year-old Deivid Aquino De Oliveira of Newark, NJ. Investigators believe he crossed the center line and collided head-on with a Toyota Corolla traveling in the opposite direction. Both De Oliveira and the Corolla driver sustained serious injuries but are expected to recover. A third vehicle trailing the Corolla suffered damage, though the occupants were unharmed.
De Oliveira exhibited signs of impairment at the hospital and was subsequently arrested. He faces charges of aggravated driving under the influence of drugs or liquor, reckless conduct, and related offenses. He has been released on personal recognizance and is scheduled to appear in Rochester District Court on June 1.
Emergency responders—including members of the New Hampshire State Police Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Unit, Rochester, Milton, and Wakefield Police Departments, Rochester Fire Department, and New Hampshire Department of Transportation—assisted at the scene. The highway was closed for several hours during the investigation but has since reopened.
The investigation is ongoing. Police urge anyone with information to come forward.
