ST. STEPHEN, SC — A woman pleaded guilty to child endangerment after a June 2023 crash that killed her infant daughter.

Authorities reported that Alexis Ann Easterlin, 22, was involved in a collision on Highway 35 near Piston Court shortly before 1:15 p.m. on June 11, 2023. The crash resulted in the death of her child, who was sitting in her lap without proper restraints.

Witnesses told the Department of Public Safety (DPS) officer that Easterlin attempted to pass another vehicle when she veered off the road, striking a mailbox, entering a ditch, and finally hitting a tree. Emergency responders found multiple open liquor bottles in her vehicle, with one reportedly half full.

Easterlin was charged with felony driving under the influence with death resulting and vehicular child endangerment on June 27, 2023. She was granted bail that same day. In November, prosecutors added a charge of reckless homicide after her indictment.

The plea resulted in a sentence of time served, with the felony DUI and reckless homicide charges dismissed.
