AIKEN — A single-vehicle accident claimed the life of a 64-year-old man on Columbia Highway North on May 19.
At 2:19 p.m., Charles Cooper, of Aiken, was driving a 1998 Dodge Ram truck southbound when he experienced a medical event, according to the Aiken County Coroner's Office. The vehicle exited the roadway, struck a utility pole, and overturned.
Emergency responders pronounced Cooper dead at the scene at 2:50 p.m. One of the two passengers was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is conducting an ongoing investigation into the incident.
