Motorcyclist Killed in Multivehicle Crash on I-78 in Lehigh County
A motorcyclist was killed Sunday morning in a multivehicle accident on Interstate 78 in Lehigh County, closing the highway for four hours.
The crash occurred around 10 a.m. near the Summit Lawn area of Salisbury Township. The roadway reopened shortly before 2 p.m.
The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at 11:15 a.m., according to Lehigh County Coroner Daniel A. Buglio. “The deceased was operating a motorcycle that collided with another vehicle and a tractor trailer,” Buglio stated. The coroner's office is in the process of notifying the family and next of kin, and the crash investigation is ongoing.
Interstate 78 eastbound was closed between Exit 55/Cedar Crest Boulevard and Exit 60/Quakertown, according to a traffic alert from 511PA.com. Delays were reported on I-78 westbound due to rubbernecking near the incident.
