Fatal Crash on Interstate 85 Claims Life of Montgomery Man
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA Action 8) – A Montgomery man is dead following a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 85 on Monday around 5 p.m.
According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), 50-year-old Dakus M. Nixon was driving a 2008 Freightliner box truck when he rear-ended another vehicle near mile marker 2 within city limits. Following the collision, the box truck hit a concrete barrier.
Authorities confirmed that Nixon was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to Jackson Hospital in Montgomery, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Troopers from ALEA's Highway Patrol Division are currently investigating the incident. No additional details, such as the condition of the occupants of the other vehicle involved, have been released.
