Raw chicken spill from multi-vehicle crash shuts down section of I-81 in Cumberland County.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — A crash involving three tractor-trailers occurred early Wednesday on I-81 northbound in Cumberland County, according to PennDOT.

The incident happened around 3:25 a.m. near mile marker 28, resulting in debris from the vehicles covering the roadway. One of the trailers was transporting raw chicken, which spilled onto the highway. Another trailer was carrying mail, while the cargo of the third vehicle remains unknown.

Franklin County crews assisted with closing the interstate. A lane restriction was implemented between mile markers 24 and 29, as stated by 511PA. PennDOT confirmed that the northbound lane of I-81 would be closed for several hours. One individual was transported to a hospital with injuries.

As of 9:30 a.m., PennDOT announced that the roadway has reopened. The spilled chicken is reported to have been taken to a landfill for disposal.
