WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — A motorcyclist died Tuesday afternoon following a crash with a school bus on EP True Parkway.
The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. in the 300 block of EP True Parkway, according to West Des Moines police. Emergency responders treated 51-year-old Brian Franklin at the scene before transporting him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Authorities reported that one of the six individuals aboard the West Des Moines Community Schools bus sustained injuries.
The circumstances of the crash are under investigation.
According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, 79 people have died on Iowa roads so far this year, which is an increase of 12 fatalities compared to the same period in 2022. Six of those deaths were motorcycle-related. Over the past five years, an average of 337 annual fatalities have been recorded statewide.
