TUCSON, Ariz. (TNND) — A 3-year-old girl died and her pregnant mother sustained serious injuries in a multi-vehicle crash involving street racing suspects on Friday at approximately 1 p.m.
According to the Tucson Police Department, 22-year-old Christian Isaiah Randall and a 16-year-old boy are facing multiple charges, including second-degree murder and aggravated assault, in connection to the incident. The identities of both suspects were confirmed by police.
Witnesses reported that Randall drove a Hyundai Genesis while allegedly racing a Dodge Charger when the Genesis collided with a Toyota Camry at the intersection of Valencia Road and Country Club Road. The force of the crash split the Camry in half. The child, who was properly restrained in a car seat, died at the scene.
Emergency responders transported the injured mother to a local hospital. Authorities do not disclose her current condition.
The Charger fled the scene, but police later located it at a home, leading to the identification of the teenage driver. Detectives determined both vehicles were exceeding the posted speed limit prior to the crash.
Randall, who suffered minor injuries, was arrested and is being held on a $500,000 bond at the Pima County Adult Detention Complex. The teenage suspect has been booked into the Pima County Juvenile Detention Center.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities continue to gather evidence and conduct interviews related to the incident.
