WALKER, Mich. — A motorcycle crash on Tuesday afternoon left one rider seriously injured after a canoe fell onto the roadway.
At approximately 3:30 p.m., authorities responded to a multi-vehicle collision at Wilson Avenue SW and Hall Street SW. Investigators reported that a southbound van lost a canoe from its roof, causing it to fall onto the road.
The canoe was first struck by a northbound car, then by a northbound motorcycle, whose rider, equipped with a helmet, sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The drivers of both the van and the car were uninjured.
Hall Street, east of Wilson Avenue, was closed for about two hours as the Walker Police Crash Investigation Team processed the scene. Wilson Avenue remained open, minimizing rush-hour delays.
Authorities indicated that alcohol and drugs do not appear to be contributing factors in the incident. Witnesses who have not yet spoken with police are encouraged to call the Walker Police Tip Line at 616-791-6788 and reference incident number 26-5451.
