LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — A theft and kidnapping incident resulted in one fatality in Las Vegas on Saturday, April 12, 2023.

According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the incident began in the 4000 block of West Charleston Boulevard. A 55-year-old man, identified as Harold Vance Allen, allegedly stole a vehicle while the passenger was asleep inside.

The vehicle, a black sedan, was reported to have sped away, crashing into a silver minivan before colliding with a pole. The passenger, whose identity has not yet been released by the Clark County Coroner's Office, sustained critical injuries and was at a local hospital. Allen received minor injuries and was subsequently booked into the Clark County Detention Center.

Allen faces multiple charges, including open murder, kidnapping, grand larceny of a motor vehicle, and attempted murder, according to jail records. He was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, April 14, with no bail set.

Authorities stated the incident appears to be a crime of opportunity. The investigation is ongoing, and further details will be released as they become available.
