New Orleans Police Investigate Shooting in St. Claude Area.

NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Police Department is investigating a shooting that resulted in a fatality in the St. Claude neighborhood at approximately 5 p.m. on April 7, 2026.

Authorities responded to reports of a crash and gunfire at the intersection of N. Claiborne Avenue and Desire Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 41-year-old man in one of the vehicles with a gunshot wound to the head. He was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the second vehicle involved in the incident fled the scene before police arrived. This case remains under investigation.
