Multi-Vehicle Crash in Springfield Leaves One Dead, Investigation Underway
Springfield, Oct. 8 — A multi-vehicle crash on Highway 45 claimed the life of a 24-year-old woman on Saturday afternoon.
According to the Springfield Police Department, the collision occurred around 2:41 p.m. when Chancellor Van Oden, 37, allegedly driving under the influence, struck an SUV occupied by Reganne Johnson. Emergency responders arrived immediately, providing medical aid at the scene.
Authorities confirmed that Johnson succumbed to her injuries shortly after the incident. Van Oden was also taken to the hospital for evaluation but did not sustain serious injuries. Both vehicles sustained significant damage, necessitating the closure of the northbound lanes of Highway 45 for approximately two hours as crews conducted an investigation and cleared the debris.
The Springfield Police Department is leading the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash and has not released further details regarding charges pending against Van Oden. No other injuries were reported from the incident.
