Officer Cited Following On-Duty Crash in St. George.

A St. George police officer received a citation following a crash while on duty at 12:30 a.m. on April 6.

The incident occurred near 2200 East. According to the St. George Police Department, the officer failed to maintain his lane, resulting in the vehicle leaving the roadway.

Witness Mikettalyn Ipson reported hearing a loud crash, comparing it to thunder. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and only minor damage occurred to city-owned property and landscaping between two homes.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office conducted the investigation, per department policy regarding incidents involving its own personnel. Authorities confirmed there were no signs of intoxication or impairment; the officer appeared to have fallen asleep at the wheel.

Officials stated that the officer is being referred for drug and alcohol testing. “Drowsy driving is as dangerous as , and precautions should be taken to avoid it,” said Sergeant Lucas Alfred of the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

The road remained open following the incident, and no significant lane closures were reported.
