PENNINGTON COUNTY, S.D. — A man died in a single-vehicle crash on Thursday, April 2, on Highway 44, five miles east of Scenic.
John Waylon Miller, 46, of Rapid City, was driving a 2007 Toyota 4Runner eastbound when he failed to negotiate a curve, according to the South Dakota Highway Patrol's preliminary crash report. Miller sustained fatal injuries and was not wearing a seat belt.
Preliminary findings indicate that Miller drove off the roadway into the north ditch, over-corrected, and crossed back over the highway. His vehicle then entered the south ditch, rolled, and came to a rest.
Miller's name was released following family notification. The South Dakota Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation.
