Aberdeen Man Identified as Victim of Fatal I-29 Crash Near Sioux Falls.

SIOUX FALLS — Authorities have identified a fatality from a crash on Interstate 29 north of Sioux Falls.

The incident occurred shortly before 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 12, near mile marker 88, approximately four miles north of the city. A 56-year-old man from Aberdeen, identified as James Knapp, was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo southbound when his vehicle came to a complete stop in the driving lane.

According to the South Dakota Highway Patrol, the Monte Carlo was struck from behind by a 2025 Peterbilt operated by a 35-year-old man from St. Paul. The impact caused Knapp's vehicle to come to rest in the west ditch. Knapp was not wearing a seat belt and succumbed to injuries sustained in the collision. The driver of the semi was wearing a seat belt and reported no injuries.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the crash, which led to temporary lane closures on the highway.
