Everett Turnpike Closed at Bedford Toll Plaza Following Serious Crash
BEDFORD, NH – The Everett Turnpike northbound is closed at the Bedford Toll Plaza due to a vehicle crash and subsequent fire on Tuesday, with emergency responders on scene.
According to New Hampshire State Police, the incident occurred just before noon and involved one vehicle that struck the toll plaza and became fully engulfed in flames. Witnesses reported that the driver suffered serious injuries and was extricated from the vehicle by bystanders.
As of 12:28 p.m., traffic is being diverted off at Exit 13. Authorities are warning motorists to expect significant delays and to seek alternative routes.
A State Trooper, part of Governor Kelly Ayotte's security detail, assisted in rescuing the driver from the burning car. The injured driver has been taken to an area hospital. The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
This incident marks the second crash at the Bedford Toll Plaza in just three days; a previous accident involved a Massachusetts woman charged with driving while intoxicated after crashing her vehicle into the tolls early Sunday morning.
