ELY – A person was airlifted to a Duluth hospital following a single-vehicle rollover crash on Echo Trail Friday afternoon.
According to the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office, authorities responded to the incident in the 1500 block of Echo Trail just before 3 p.m. Witnesses reported the vehicle nearly ran another off the road before it veered into a ditch, struck a ledge, and rolled over.
The vehicle caught fire, prompting bystanders to rescue the sole occupant before flames engulfed the vehicle. The victim sustained a head injury and was initially treated at Ely Hospital before being airlifted to Duluth for further medical attention.
Authorities did not release the victim's identity. The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office is conducting an investigation into the incident.
Emergency responders included local law enforcement and medical teams. The crash led to temporary lane closures on Echo Trail.
