Five-year-old dies in St. James Parish crash as state police launch investigation.

ST. JAMES PARISH, La. — A child was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 3213 Saturday shortly before 10 p.m.

According to Louisiana State Police (LSP), 5-year-old Demond Tenner of Baker was at the scene. The crash involved a 2019 Hyundai Tucson traveling south and a 2022 Chevrolet Malibu heading north.

Initial investigations reveal the Tucson crossed the centerline while navigating a right curve and collided head-on with the Malibu, causing the Tucson to become fully engulfed in flames. Five occupants of the Tucson sustained moderate to serious injuries and were transported to the hospital.

The driver of the Malibu, who was properly restrained, sustained moderate injuries and was taken to an out-of-area hospital. An unrestrained front-seat passenger in the Malibu suffered serious injuries and was also transported to a hospital.

Tenner, along with a 4-year-old seated in the back, were improperly restrained. The 4-year-old was seriously injured and taken to an out-of-area hospital.

The crash remains under investigation by LSP.
