LESTER, IA — One person died in a train collision with a pickup truck Tuesday around noon in Lyon County, just south of the Minnesota state line.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, a 2026 Ford pickup failed to yield at a railroad crossing and was struck by an oncoming train. The driver, whose identity has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Emergency responders from local agencies were quick to arrive, but the crash remains under investigation. No further details about road closures or additional injuries have been confirmed at this time.
Authorities reported that as of this year, 46 fatalities have occurred on Iowa roads, marking an increase of eight compared to the same period in 2025.
