ASHKUM — A DeKalb woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 57 in Iroquois County on Wednesday morning.
Shirley J. Davis, 48, was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:15 a.m., according to Iroquois County Coroner Bill Cheatum. An autopsy is scheduled for later today.
The Illinois State Police District 21 reported that Davis' 1996 Ford Taurus was stopped in the passing lane when it was struck from behind by a 2009 Honda Odyssey driven by Daniel Nosek, 56, of Lombard. Authorities said Nosek did not see the stopped vehicle.
Davis was accompanied by her daughter, Lacriessa Mosley, 22, of Chicago, in the front passenger seat. Two young children, ages 2 and 5 months, were in the back seat. Mosley was transported to Riverside Hospital in Kankakee, while the children were taken to a separate hospital with injuries. Nosek was taken to St. Mary's Hospital in Kankakee with minor injuries.
The collision occurred at 8:18 a.m. in the southbound lanes of Interstate 57 at milepost 290. The highway was closed for approximately three hours as emergency services responded and the scene was investigated.
