GREENACRES, Fla. — A Learjet 60 crashed near Greenacres on Sunday, resulting in the deaths of nine people, according to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
The NTSB confirmed that excavation efforts at the crash site began late Wednesday and continued into Thursday as crews worked to recover wreckage. Investigators have found debris from the aircraft in areas away from the main impact site, including on the roofs of nearby homes and buildings.
Authorities emphasized that all retrieved wreckage will be secured for further examination. They are urging residents who discover any debris believed to be from the Learjet not to keep or attempt to move, alter, or dispose of it, as even small pieces might contain crucial evidence.
Witnesses who have located or collected debris are asked to contact the NTSB at witness@ntsb.gov to facilitate the recovery process, preferably including a photograph of the debris in their correspondence.
The NTSB highlighted the importance of recovering as much of the aircraft wreckage as possible to aid in the investigation and determine the crash’s cause.
