GREENACRES, Fla. (October 22, 2023) — A Learjet crashed in Greenacres Sunday afternoon, resulting in the deaths of all nine people aboard, including a family with two young children.
Authorities confirmed that the aircraft, traveling from Austin, Texas, to the Bahamas, descended rapidly and broke apart before impact. Eyewitnesses reported seeing flames and thick black smoke enveloping the crash site, located about 7 miles southwest of West Palm Beach.
The victims included co-pilot Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras, 20, and technology entrepreneur Adam Robinson, along with his wife, Helen Sharp, and their two children, according to family members. A nearby driver sustained leg injuries during the incident.
National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) officials indicated that weather conditions would be a primary focus of the investigation. On the day of the crash, the area experienced heavy rain and turbulent conditions, with an FAA warning issued for pilots about thunderstorms. Initial reports suggested ice accumulation on the aircraft at high altitude, leading to a loss of control.
NTSB member Tom Chapman stated that investigators would need to recover the main wreckage from the crash site, which remains under investigation. Clean-up efforts have restricted access to a nearby residential area, with local officials unable to confirm when residents may return.
