LENOIR COUNTY — A motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a tractor-trailer Friday afternoon, October 23, according to the N.C. State Highway Patrol.
Authorities reported that Martin Hugh Simonds, 42, was traveling east on Grifton Hugo Road when he failed to yield, entering the path of a southbound tractor-trailer on NC 11. The crash occurred around 2:17 p.m.
The force of the collision ejected Simonds and his passenger from the motorcycle. Simonds was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville.
No charges are expected in the incident.
