FARGO — A serious motorcycle crash on University Drive left 19-year-old Isaac Putney hospitalized on September 13.
Putney was critically injured when his motorcycle was struck by a vehicle traveling north in the southbound lane. Authorities confirmed the incident's severity and noted emergency responders transported Putney to Sanford Hospital for treatment.
According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, the driver of the vehicle, 24-year-old Elijah Blue Baumann, died on September 16. Investigators are continuing to assess the circumstances leading to the crash.
Putney's family reported he has undergone multiple surgeries, with doctors indicating an impending above-the-knee amputation due to complications from his injuries. His mother, Jennifer Schlecht, expressed concern for her son's recovery during this challenging time.
“Issaac is aware of the gravity of his injuries and has expressed anxiety about his future,” Schlecht said. She confirmed that he remembers the crash vividly and is grappling with the emotional aftermath.
A fundraising motorcycle ride is scheduled for Sunday, September 27, at Speck's Bar to support Putney's recovery. The event begins at 2 p.m., with a $10 fee per rider, and a meal will be provided afterward.
